I knew Alex and Kenny’s wedding would be super-creative and super-fun, but my high expectations were exceeded! The wedding took place between Leeds and Saltaire, both locations that are special to the couple, with a slightly unusual theme running through it…! With Alex living in Manchester and Kenny in Glasgow, they spent much of their early relationship travelling between the two on the West Coast mainline… so decided to incorporate this as a theme in their wedding. Not many people could pull off a railway-themed wedding with such style and elegance, but Alex, with her background in design and creative flair, did just that. The tables were named after the sixteen stops between their stations, using old-fashioned railway-station signs; a map with the stations on formed their table plan; and place-names were made from old train tickets and luggage labels. But the most fun part of the railway theme was the couple and their guests travelling from Leeds – where they held the ceremony – to Saltaire – for the reception – by the 15.16 Skipton train, incorporating a head-turning walk through Leeds city centre from the church to the station.
Alex, a talented graphic designer, created all the beautiful watercolour stationery and paper goods which featured throughout the wedding, in the beautiful bold coral and aqua colour scheme. (I LOVE the flamingoes!!) The bridesmaids wore stunning two-piece coral and sequin dresses from Coast with aqua shoes, while the groomsmen picked up the colour scheme with coral ties. The reception took place at Victoria Hall in Saltaire, a grade II listed building, which they decorated with tall olive trees that doubled as gifts (I still have mine proudly displayed either side of my front door here in France!). The couple had spent lots of time at Salts Mill and around the pretty village of Saltaire and it had become a special place to them, so it was lovely to use this as a backdrop for some of the photos. Alex herself looked beautiful in her elegant Jesus Peiro gown from Miss Bush Bridal, paired with classic L.K.Bennett sandals. The flowers were gorgeous, some of my favourites ever, featuring stunning bright coral peonies, roses, succulents and grey-green foliage.
As well as the abundance of style, fun and creativity this was a wedding filled with love and laughter – from the beautiful ceremony which so many friends and family members were involved in, to the hilarious and emotional speeches, and finally the epic dancefloor action! (which sadly I couldn’t join in with as I was 6 months pregnant and could barely walk by the end of the wedding day!!) What an honour to capture such a beautiful and love-filled occasion! Mr. & Mrs. Fleming, thank you for having me as your wedding photographer, I loved being part of your amazing day. Wishing you all the best in your future together and as your start your little family! Katy xXx
